Effectively Managing Risk Across the Enterprise is a new and ground-breaking report from APQC on enterprise risk management (ERM). Intuit was one of the best-practice organizations in the Collaborative Benchmarking study.

Intuit’s case study offers yet another illustration of how an ERM process can be fully integrated into a company’s annual enterprise and business unit strategic planning process. The case also provides an informative look at risk assessment and quantification, as well as how the ERM teams works well in parallel with (but does not reside within) the internal audit team.

In addition, the case illustrates how Intuit’s ERM program office and risk owners use a variety of tools to examine risks and determine the appropriate risk management plans. These tools include root-cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), threat models, and scenario planning. The ERM program office facilitates knowledge sharing among risk owners, business unit ERM leaders, and other interested parties by maintaining an ERM repository of knowledge on an ERM intranet. The company also has developed an effective on-line tool that streamlines assessment tracking and reporting of risk information.
