Cal Newport on Deep Work for KM: How to Succeed in a Distracted World

Computer scientist Cal Newport is the author of the 2016 book Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World. In this book, Newport argues that the ability to focus intensely without distraction (what he calls "deep work") is becoming increasingly valuable in our economy at the same time that it’s becoming increasingly rare. The individuals and organizations who cultivate this skill, therefore, will thrive. So can KM programs help people choose and use technologies in pursuit of deep work? Ask yourself: Are your KM tools and approaches worthy of distraction? In his keynote, Newport made the case for deep work and then provided concrete strategies for mastering this key 21st century skill and how KM can help.
