Scott Shaffar and Marisa Connell, presenters at APQC’s 2013 knowledge management (KM) conference, described three challenges that required Northrop Grumman (NG)’s attention to KM solutions:
- Collaboration—a constant in a high performance organizations like NG.
- Affordability and innovation—finding the lowest price for technically acceptable solutions.
- Performance—providing deliverables as promised regarding cost, schedule, and quality.
In order to overcome these challenges, NG implemented five knowledge sharing solutions: program learning process, sentinel alert system, manager community of practice, knowledge and talent utilization, and systems thinking integration. This overview briefly describes the way the organization utilizes each.
