Position Title: Graphic Designer (interactive & Print)

Functional Area: Marketing 


APQC is a leading business research and improvement organization whose mission is disseminating best practice information, metrics, tools and expertise to Fortune 500, government and nonprofit organizations. APQC has an open position of Graphic Designer in its marketing department.  The position is weighted more on interactive design and development but it does also include offline design projects.

The Graphic Designer will conceptualize, design, oversee and implement the visual and interactive elements for all marketing campaigns, branding and publication layouts. The designer is responsible for generating product demand and customer loyalty campaigns as well as supporting brand awareness.  The role operates in conjunction with the Marketing team and Product groups who provide direction, understanding of the market and business goals.  The designer must be able to clearly and consistently communication attributes and information in a creative, compelling and memorable way.

Understanding of business-to-business, research or services marketing is a plus.  This position requires attention to detail, excellent technical and creative ability and keen problem solving skills.  The ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines simultaneously is critical. 



  • Grasp intangible business concepts and provide fresh ideas for how to communicate those concepts in a visual medium be it print or Web.

  • Handle all aspects of corporate marketing communications (advertising, promotions, identity, collateral, signage, web, etc.) from concept through final production, including art direction, design, presentation, development, and quality assurance.

  • Create and code user-friendly Web sites, Web pages, campaign specific landing pages, and e-mails.

  • Maintain and develop brand standards including colors, fonts, images, paper stock, templates, etc.

  • Understand and translate data into charts and graphs, including knowledge of which chart type is most applicable and how to visually display data. 

  • Possess a keen understanding and balance between the visual aspect of design and the functional aspect of the project or campaign to generate leads.

  • Handle day-to-day updates for content and graphics of the Web site using CMS and templates.

  • Quality check completed Web pages including basic testing for browser compatibility.

  • Collaborate with web developer to provide visual templates or skins to support back-end coding or to implement new design changes requiring back-end support.

  • Concept and execute creative for center advertising campaigns

  • Co-ordinate video and photography of center events
  • Operate as a self-starter and work both independently and collaboratively to outline the best graphic styles and uses to achieve the desired objective.

  • Be resourceful on use of both time and expense dollars related to projects.

  • Handle all project management and scheduling.

  • Bring strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines and effectively manage multiple projects at once.

  • As needed, handle Graphics Requests and Web Change Requests that come in from other departments (either from the Vault, e-mail, or verbal).

  • As needed, handle color printer (Phaser 7400DX) maintenance (Order supplies, keep track of usage/billing by dept, etc).


Qualifications & Skills:

  • 4-6 years experience in web and print design
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
  • Advanced use of Macromedia Studio (Flash, Dreamweaver, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge and use of HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Working knowledge using templates and updates within Content Management Systems (Drupal experience a plus)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), template and theme use important
  • Ability to work in a PC-based environment
  • Agency experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in design/graphic arts or comparable work experience
  • Ability to understand business principles, operations, improvement tools and how they are used inside large enterprises.
  • Understanding of business-to-business, research or services marketing is a plus.
