Toy Story Telling From CSCMP

Ryan Sullivan's picture

Recently I attended my first CSCMP conference, which was in Atlanta Georgia this year. It was a great event, I had virtually no expectations walking in and I was pleasantly surprised. First, it was much larger than I anticipated. I walked in to the large convention center Sunday night for what I thought was a small pre-conference social and a chance to meet a few people, but in reality the conference was 100% up and running. There were around 75 vendors booths, food, drinks, a live band, and probably a thousand or more people throughout the night.

5 Tips for Better Demand Planning

If you were on social media in 2013, you probably saw one viral video that was hard to miss: A Volvo Live Test featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme performing an “epic split” between two rolling Volvo trucks. It was the sixth and final in Volvo’s series of Live Test films, which pushed the boundaries of advertising in the social media age.

Celebrating 40 Years of RENEWAL and Reinvention

Carla O'Dell's picture

This year marks APQC’s 40th anniversary, so all year long we could hardly wait for the big team party we were planning for the fall. But Hurricane Harvey had something else in store for us, and so our celebration plans ended up underwater – quite literally in this case.

Recent Hurricanes Highlight Supply Chain’s Struggle With Truck Driver Shortage

“What’s the biggest supply chain challenge facing you right now?”

I’ve gotten some interesting answers to that question, but last week while at the APICS conference in San Antonio, I was chatting with a supply chain leader from Sysco who lives in Houston. Her response to my question gave me pause. Her answer: Truck Drivers.

Millennial Workers Value Relationships

As I was pulling together content recently around millennials in the workforce, I realized my daughter is the youngest of the millennial range – born in 1995. Millennials, according to APQC’s study definition, are born 1980 – 1995. Why not ask her a few questions to see if her thoughts correlate with other millennials in APQC’s recent study, Millennials in the Supply Chain Workforce.

What is Blockchain?

Marisa Brown's picture

Much is being said these days about blockchain, also referred to as distributed ledger technology, and its impact on business. Let’s be honest with each other: are you familiar with blockchain? If you are not, then the good news is that you are not alone. And if you are extremely familiar, you are in fairly limited company.

Overconfidence in Full Effect

Every so often, I hear the hilarious statistic cited that ninety percent of drivers think that they are better than the average driver. It goes without saying that this is a mathematical impossibility. And it demonstrates the proven cognitive bias known as “illusory superiority.” Why, in an evolutionary sense, humans ended up overestimating their own abilities is beyond me (although it’s a stimulating web search rabbit hole), but it never ceases to astonish me when I see it.

Digitizing the Supply Chain

Joe Tillman's picture

Digitizing the supply chain is continuing to unfold. In the past week, I’ve spoken to a few organizations about their progress to create the digital supply chain – running the gamut from getting it started in earnest, to full on using it. One thing was clear – no plans are in place to change the measures of performance.

Why Connected Devices Are Going to Power Supply Chain’s Future

Joe Tillman's picture

Within this decade, no organizational function will experience greater transformation from the Internet-of-Things than supply chain management.

The digital transformation is allowing all parts of the business to collect data that will drive decisions and operations. But the supply chain is the clear point of entry for businesses to start connecting devices that will generate tremendous volumes of data and transform operations.

Worthless Words about Priceless Memories

Michael Sims's picture

I’m going to start off this blog with a few (seemingly) random facts. First, it’s springtime. Second, my friends and I are in our late twenties. Finally, I participate in social media. These facts are relatively meaningless on their own, but, when taken in combination, they can mean only one thing: I see lots and lots of wedding photos each and every day.
