Blockchain for business: It is no longer just a concept; organizations are actively creating solutions. There is currently a great deal of experimentation and investment in this emerging technology. Even hosting and cloud vendors (e.g., Amazon Web Services) are now moving to offer blockchain.

Romaine Lettuce Recall: A Case for Blockchain?

Marisa Brown's picture

With recent food safety crises such as the pre-Thanksgiving U.S. recall on romaine lettuce due to an E. coli outbreak, I have heard people calling for increased traceability of food and a greater ability to track products back to their origins. Thankfully, a few days ago the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) narrowed the lettuce warning to romaine grown in certain California regions only.

KM Fills a Gap in AI Projects

I, along with my colleague Lauren Trees, recently interviewed 21 organizations applying artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation (RPA) internally and found that the organizations that had made the most progress, had the most experimentation, and were having the most successful AI pilots were creating alliances across the organization to do it.  APQC metrics research offers further support that close alliances are key to successful and sustainable KM programs.

Future Proofing Your KM Program

There is an AI/automation arms race underway between the big players—IBM, Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Facebook – and knowledge management is the beneficiary.  Turns out, KM tasks such as content management, tagging, search, and expertise location are good targets for AI and might really augment the KM team.

I recently spoke with several individuals from Esker Inc. to get advice and lessons learned from their experience with automating the sales order process.

If an organization is considering implementing sales order automation, what things do they need to ensure it will be successful?

Carla O'Dell's picture

If you are into process improvement, now is the time to jump onto your organization’s analytics and digital transformation efforts. A recent APQC study found 53 percent of organizations plan on investing in advanced analytics and automation over the next 12 months. For the remaining 47 percent, it is likely not a question of “if” but “when.”

What do improvement professionals need to know to join in this wave of digital transformation?

6 Use Cases for Blockchain-as-a-Service

Marisa Brown's picture

I recently interviewed Andrew Bruce to learn how blockchain can cut costs, reduce complexity, and improve controls in oil and gas supply chains and across industries. Andrew Bruce is the CEO of Data Gumbo, a blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) provider offering smart contract capabilities to oil and gas companies. Bruce discussed how and why companies use BaaS, the financial and resource investment required, and how supply chain leaders can move forward with BaaS implementation.

What is blockchain-as-a-service?

Empowering People for the Digital Age

Technology of the future will change our experience, but self-awareness is a change in consciousness. Change really comes down to whether or not people feel safe to explore new things, feel supported as they are learning, and feel confident in themselves and their ability to navigate this digital explosion.

(Hopefully you read the blog title with a Deep South accent.)

Happy holidays, reader!

I’m going to begin this post with a slightly embarrassing self-quote from 5 years ago, when I was a first-year MBA student. The following is an excerpt from the introduction I wrote for a marketing plan group assignment.

You can tell I was really feeling myself when I wrote that… And, you know what? I still am!

And here’s why.

Celebrating 40 Years of RENEWAL and Reinvention

Carla O'Dell's picture

This year marks APQC’s 40th anniversary, so all year long we could hardly wait for the big team party we were planning for the fall. But Hurricane Harvey had something else in store for us, and so our celebration plans ended up underwater – quite literally in this case.
