APQC is pleased to announce full-day pre-conference workshops that will take place October 26-28. Separate from the conference, these workshops offer unique, in-depth approaches to effectively manage business processes and performance, and will help you master the most important BPM trends.

Note: There is an additional fee separate from the conference fee for each workshop. Workshops are subject to a maximum number of participants. APQC members receive discount pricing.

Advanced Practitioner Workshop   Advanced

This workshop is intended for intermediate and advanced practitioners. Participants will be split up into teams to tackle real-world process design and improvement challenges using proven techniques and approaches. Participants will work through a series of activities based upon actual engagements and improvement projects, as well as their own process challenges brought to the session.

Design Thinker: Experience Innovation   Beginner to intermediate

Innovation is as essential as it is difficult. Organizational cultures capable of "inventing the future" are rare, but the discipline of design provides people with tools and techniques to think differently, see new opportunities, and create impactful, innovative solutions. ExperiencePoint's award-winning Design Thinker workshop is an expert-guided innovation experience that explores the fundamentals of IDEO's approach. During this session, participants will be led through the process, introduced to design thinking techniques, and be broken into teams to tackle a realistic innovation project.

Influence Skills   Intermediate  

The Soft Stuff is the Hard Stuff: How to Build Influence in the Process World

This workshop is based on the fact that the people in charge of change within an organization are generally not in charge of the people with the knowledge. This session focuses on tools and concepts to develop influence skills in the absence of positional authority. In this hands-on, interactive session, participants will apply the tools and concepts to their own work situations and leave with a plan of action.

Process Analysis: Creating and Improving Well-Designed Processes   Beginner to intermediate

Our business processes are characterized by how they are defined, communicated, automated, measured, and controlled. Process analysis helps us understand the business needs for our processes and evaluate design features to ensure we develop, deploy, and support solutions that achieve expected results. This course covers the essentials for process analysis within any organization, demonstrating how to design processes that meet the needs of the business. Attendees will learn about the types of process analyses and when/how to apply them during creation and improvement efforts.

Process Definition   Beginner to intermediate

In this hands-on workshop, attendees develop process definition and modeling skills using tools such as Process Definition Documents, SIPOC models, and RACI charts. Attendees should come prepared to learn the theory behind the tools and their practical application. After completing this workshop, attendees will productively apply process definition and mapping skills to common business processes.

Process Frameworks and Cross-Functional Processes   Beginner

This workshop introduces attendees to process frameworks such as APQC’s Process Classification Framework. Attendees then develop skills in process framework design and cross-functional process identification and documentation. Attendees in this dynamic and highly interactive workshop leave with the ability to adopt and customize a process framework and document cross-functional process models from a process framework.

Process Management   Beginner

Attendees in this workshop will develop their understanding of process management from real-world case studies and examples, as well as APQC subject matter expertise. The workshop is organized around APQC’s Seven Tenets of Process Management, a framework for understanding and assessing an organization’s process management capabilities. After participating in the workshop, attendees will be able to identify their organization’s process management capabilities and begin charting and developing process management goals and approaches.

Process Performance: Monitoring and Controlling Your Processes   Intermediate

The process performance workshop prepares attendees to understand process performance measurement and develop performance measurement systems. Attendees develop measurement information worksheets, identify characteristics necessary to normalize the data, and identify the appropriate measures to use in various situations.
