APQC Introduces Self-Service Benchmarking Portal into the World’s Largest Open Standards Benchmarking Database, Notes Most Requested Benchmarks Focus on Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting

Portal enables more effective support for process improvement projects with access to 400,000 benchmarking metrics and 1,500 performance measures

(Houston, Texas - July 2, 2013) - APQC, the nonprofit leader in benchmarking and best practices research, has introduced a Benchmarking Portal to provide members with critical performance data at their fingertips, enabling them to view benchmarks on demand, compare their performance to other organizations, or obtain thorough assessments of their organization’s performance via detailed peer comparisons and reports.  APQC’s Benchmarking Portal leverages the largest open standards database of benchmarks and performance metrics in the world, APQC’s own Open Standards BenchmarkingSM database.

In announcing the portal, which soft launched with members two months ago, APQC notes that four of the five most accessed metrics relate to planning, budgeting and forecasting. The most requested metric and data thus far is:

“The Benchmarking Portal is at the heart of APQC’s mission to discover and document world-class business practices and share proven methodologies, processes and performance data,” said John Tesmer, senior program manager, APQC.  “Since we first launched our Open Standards Benchmarking effort 10 years ago, the research has evolved to include more than 400,000 metrics and 1,500 performance measures—including cost, cycle time, efficiency, and productivity—in key functional areas and from some 13,000 submissions.  With the new user-interface it will be easier for our members to search and download metric data and complete insightful benchmarking assessments as they seek to improve their organizations’ performance.”

Organizations use the Benchmarking Portal for a variety of purposes, such as to set annual budgets; target top priorities for improvement projects; benchmark internally across multiple business sites; identify the enablers of best practices and top performance; analyze current processes; and set baselines for Six Sigma or ERP projects.  Depending on membership, companies may access the full complement of Benchmarking Portal data or their specific functional area, including:

Specific tools offered in the Benchmarking Portal include:

  • Benchmarks on Demand, which provide immediate access to APQC’s most commonly requested benchmarks.  Users may select one or multiple metrics and view instant results from APQC’s database.
  • Rapid Performance Assessments, which allow organizations to choose an assessment covering processes from a variety of functional areas to compare their performance with others.  These assessments are short (typically less than 20 questions) and validated reports are provided within two business days.
  • APQC’s Open Standards Benchmarking Surveys, which deliver custom, comprehensive assessments that provide insight into key organizational processes to identify performance gaps.  These reports include peer comparisons and detailed reports and are typically delivered in two to three weeks.
