Open Standards Benchmarking Assessments

You need to assess your key organizational processes. Perhaps a specific process is affecting your organization's performance and you need to determine the extent of your performance gap. Once you've identified which process needs attention, you can turn to APQC's Open Standards Benchmarking assessments for deep, accurate, relevant, and timely benchmarks for that process. The resulting intelligence helps you decide where to focus your limited resources for long-term sustainable improvement. Combined with best practices from our Knowledge Base, Open Standards Benchmarking assessments help you quickly identify and solve common business process performance problems.

After you complete your assessment, APQC’s highly trained staff of analysts will:

  • validate your data and follow up with you if any clarification is needed; and
  • prepare and send you a report illustrating how your organization compares with top performers across your region, industry, and organizational size, as well as all companies in our vast database.

We update our data frequently. Our analysts normalize performance measures to ensure apples-to-apples comparisons. Getting started is easy: Each process has its own dedicated page. From the process's page you can:

  • enter the APQC Benchmarking Portal to continue assessments you’ve already started, manage your benchmarking activities, or get detailed instructions;
  • view a sample report;
  • view a list of performance measures you'll receive in the report;
  • view the actual questions in the assessment; and
  • start benchmarking your performance immediately.

Before participating in a benchmarking effort, most organizations want to understand the scope of the dataset to which they will be compared. APQC publishes a number of lists, including all submitting organizations by alphabetical order, industry, and research area. Please review the lists below for more information.

To get started, choose an assessment from the list below, or visit the research area page for more information.

Our team of professional analysts can also assist with custom reporting needs. If your benchmarking effort would benefit from a report comparing the performance of various business units of your organization, or the addition of one or more custom peer groups, we can help. Just contact us for more information.

We have other ways of supporting your performance assessment needs as well. Consider a Rapid Performance Assessment or Benchmarks on Demand. Rapid Performance Assessments can help you to quickly identify any process within your organization that needs attention. Think of them as "quick health checks." Benchmarks on Demand are a quick and easy way to access our metrics database without participating in a benchmarking assessment—just tell us which measures you're interested in, and we'll provide you with the results.

For information on how to complete the assessments, please enter the Benchmarking Portal. Note that all of your benchmarking information with APQC is accessible through this portal.

Participation in the assessments is free for APQC members.  For more information, see our fee schedule for Open Standards Benchmarking participation.
