National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was among the best-practice organizations studied as part of APQC’s Collaborative Benchmarking study Retaining Today's Knowledge for Tomorrow's Work Force. This case study describes NASA's knowledge retention and transfer strategy and approaches.

NASA is the primary govenment agency for space research and exploration in the United States. The challenges of new missions and the failure of certain missions, combined with an aging work force, compelled NASA to realize that it risked losing valuable knowledge. To combat this problem, the agency has implemented a comprehensive knowledge retention and transfer strategy.
